Storm surveyors definitely needed both their DEFRA water safety training and their experience of surveying river channels whilst undertaking a complex project of a river cross section survey on four separate reaches within the Duffield area of Derbyshire. Each one presenting its own challenge. Like many of Storm’s projects the data will be used for modelling flood risk.  With the Chesterfield Canal experiencing huge traffic congestion in Spring, it was imperative that efficient planning from our survey managers was undertaken to help the project run smoothly and to achieve the deadline. Storm are keen to highlight the importance of Land Access solutions, the case study of this project will explain why it is so vital.

Meanwhile, another team of surveyors undertook a multi discipline survey along reaches of the Rivers Balder & Tees, County Durham during April  to produce a River Digital Twin for Storm’s client Stantec.  Time was of the essence as the project required LiDAR data to be collected before the spring growth obscured the vital ground levels. Pre-site preparation involved contacting several landowners across the project area. A one stop solution from land access to surveying ensured Storm saved valuable time & resources which allowed the team to concentrate on producing maximum quality data.  How this was accomplished is explained in the case study for this project.

And finally for April…..In their quest to discover the next generation of geospatial surveyors Mike Hopkins & Caitlin Tonge visited a local school to showcase the career to year 10 pupils. Head of Careers Dr Claire Evans commented “The students thoroughly enjoyed the event and you have definitely sown a seed/future passion for surveying.” Storm are committed to encouraging young people to learn more about the profession and are pleased to have welcomed a recent work experience candidate as new fulltime trainee surveyor.
