Storm Geomatics: A New Chapter Unfolds
December brought an exciting new client relationship to Storm Geomatics. Conservation company Oxygen Conservation approached Storm Geomatics from a historical connection between an engineer and surveyor that had worked together on several previous projects for different companies.
This new collaboration has proved vital in establishing potential opportunities for two nature regeneration projects that will benefit from the Biodiversity Net Gain system. Storm have advised on the different survey deliverables that are available and how they contribute to the overall design and development of the nature regeneration sites. Oxygen Conservation were able to consider the varied options and streamline the geospatial survey to fit with their budget and achieve the highest value outcomes, making the data work across many different facets of the projects.
Storm’s Mike Hopkins commented “This is a unique partnership between two companies that have a passion to promote and achieve successful nature regeneration in a range of diverse landscapes, because of this, more projects will be undertaken in less time and produced for optimum value.”
A project that tested surveying skills of Surveyor Tom Isaac and his team was a channel survey along the Rivers Stor, Chilt and Arun to assist the Environment Agency assess the flood risk in the Lower Arun catchment. The logistics of the survey posed several challenges. The Arun is a tidal river, with water levels fluctuating as much as 6 meters due to tidal movements. Project management was the key to a successful outcome, the case study explains the team’s solution.
Before the the operations team downed tools for a rest over the festive period, the whole company came together to reflect on 2024 and plan ahead for 2025. Inspired by Sir Clive Woodward’s keynote address, “One Team,” at The Survey Association’s annual conference in November, Mike Hopkins led the day with this unifying theme. The team collaborated to develop and commit to a “Winning Behaviour Code“—a set of conscious, everyday actions designed to elevate the experience of being part of Storm Geomatics.
By embedding these winning behaviours into daily actions, Storm Geomatics is redefining what outstanding service means. To conclude the Strategic Company Day, the team dispersed to local villages, spending time litter picking and giving back to the local communities.
It was then time to celebrate 2024 at the annual Christmas Party! The team and their partners took the Riverside Venue in Stratford on Avon by storm and danced the night away.
Storm’s commitment to innovation and equipment investment brought an exciting delivery to HQ just before the Christmas shutdown. A state-of-the-art bathymetric survey vessel from Seastrike boats. This vessel expands our boat fleet and will play a major role in our commitment to lead the way in bathymetric and precision mapping solutions.
After a well earned rest, Storm Geomatics will be hitting 2025 running. The order book is full and the excitement is reaching fever pitch on the recent River Digital Twin® developments…all will be revealed next month….
