Guy Martin

Guy Martin takes on his next world record attempt in Dumfries and Galloway for his second series of “Speed” on Channel 4. Mike Hopkins joined Guy to prepare to measure the speed as Guy attempts to break the world speed record for a hovercraft on Loch Ken. The hovercraft speed attempt will be shown on Sunday 8th November at 8pm. This is the second televised World Record attempt that Mike has measured for Guy Martin and he says “It feels very special to be involved in such a popular TV series working with a great production team and of course the star of the show Guy Martin. I didn’t realise adrenaline levels could run so high through a surveyors veins whilst measuring!” Mike has started using words around the office like “shoot” and “wrap” , he clearly likes the TV environment!

Following last Octobers flooding from St Jude’s storm, Somerset, a team from Storm Geomatics spent three weeks undertaking channel surveys of 15 drains across the Somerset Levels. These surveys were completed to determine silt levels within these smaller rivers as part of the wider EA project. The Environmental Agency have recently finished a project dredging the River Parrett and the River Tone to reduce the risk of flooding following the previous flood events which saw 399mm of rainfall in January 2014.
